Students Shine at the North East Science and Technology Challenge Final
Two talented students proudly represented The Newbridge School at the North East Science and Technology Challenge Final at the University of Huddersfield on Wednesday 7th January 2026.Our place in the final followed our success at the Leicestershire Science and Technology Challenge Day at Gateway College in June last year. This achievement placed Newbridge among the top eight of the 190 schools that took part, which is something we are incredibly proud of.
From the 12 students who took part in the original challenge day, two were selected to advance to the final in Huddersfield. There, they were tasked with programming Lego Mindstorms robots to navigate a complex three dimensional maze. They tackled the challenge with determination, teamwork and skill, showing the same creativity and focus that earned them their place in the competition.
Although they did not bring home the final trophy, both students performed at an exceptionally high level and represented Newbridge brilliantly.
John Waterworth, Project Manager for Medical Careers Events and Science & Technology Challenge Days at MCS Projects Ltd, praised their efforts, saying:
“They tackled a very demanding challenge with great determination. It was a pleasure to see them perform at such a high level.”
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing what they accomplish next.
