Sarah Middleton
From enjoying Food and Nutrition at Newbridge to teaching it for over two decades, Sarah has built a rewarding career in food education.Sarah’s favourite subject at Newbridge was Food and Nutrition, a choice that shaped her future career. “The school had a welcoming atmosphere and a strong, supportive culture,” Sarah recalls. “Lessons were fun and engaging, and I have great memories of school trips to the Pyrenees, Spain, and Holland, as well as activities week.”
After leaving Newbridge, Sarah studied Hospitality and Licensed Retail Management at the University of Wolverhampton, followed by a PGCE in Design and Technology at Loughborough University. She began her career in the hospitality industry, managing pubs and restaurants, before moving into teaching.
Sarah has now taught food in schools for 24 years and currently works as a Home Economics and Hospitality Teacher at Dixie Grammar School. Her role includes planning lessons, marking coursework, researching teaching methods, and delivering practical chef-style skills in the kitchen. She is also a qualified Lead Practitioner.
Looking ahead, Sarah hopes to progress into a management role. Among her proudest achievements are winning the Design and Technology Association Award for Outstanding Teacher, receiving the SSAT Lead Practitioner Award, and serving as an examiner and moderator.
Sarah’s journey shows how a passion for food and strong foundations at school can lead to a rewarding career in education.
